To the Future Fifth Graders

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is you place to write letters to the incoming class of fifth graders. Your letter needs to show some real thought, because the students need as much information as possible about how to be successful in fifth grade. They need your best advice about all things fifth grade. They need to know about Cal-Wood, homework, the expectations of the fifth grade teachers and pushing their thinking at all times. Please do your very best as you write a letter to the future fifth graders who will carry on your legacy!

~ Mr. Moore and Ms. Vander Velde

Dear future fifth graders,
I bet you think fifth grade is scary or its super hard we feel the same way for 6th grade but fifth grade is so fun. You learn new things everyday it isn't hard if you pay close attention to stuff that Mr. Moore or Ms. V tell you. Listen about homework it will be easy if you just bring it in everyday and trust me if you don't bring it often you can loose some privileges but you don't have to worry about it unless you bring it in everyday. When you are in writing push your thinking a lot you can get better ideas by pushing your thinking. You kids might be very lucky because you get to go to Cal-wood for 4 days you guys are lucky. Lets talk about expectations listen when Mr. Moore is talking because you don't want to be playing around when the teachers are talking it sure isn't polite at all.
Your friend,
Anna Karen

Dear future 5th graders,
I think you should be ready for 5th grade. You might feel nervous at first but don't worry some of your friends might come with you to the same class room and any ways every body feels nervous at the beging even the teachers. I thnik that you should also try to push your thinking when you get into this grade because you might start out rocky at the beging but when it is close to the end you just be on a smooth wave. So you should also practice on your math, your wrighting, and your reading so try to stay on topic and make sure you practice some other things to so be prepared even at the end because you need to try not to cry at the end so be strong and try not to cry. You should also be ready to go to cal-wood and make sure you bring shorts and T-shirts but also brig a jacket and some snow pants just in case it snows. And it is ok if you can't hold in your tears so go ahead and cry. Make sure Ms.V dosen't bite and Ms.V can turn in to Mean V like that. Current Events are pretty hard so try to find sonme thing out of colorado and in like brazil and also watch out for Mrs. Jenny next year and make sure you make lots of friends.

Dear future fifth graders,
Hi I'm Dominique and I just want to give you some advice here.
1.Mr. Moore is really strict so be sure to do all of your homework.
2.When you have homework be sure to write down all of your homework like on Monday Wensday and Friday you need to have a patch of writing.
3.Mr. Moore will want you to have a current event article on Friday and I mean its due on Friday, and every Friday.
Mr Moore can be really funny but when it comes to teaching be careful.
Dominique

Dear future fifth graders,
The teachers expectations of you are very high. It will be hard to reach them at first, but it gets easier as the year goes on. Your homework is a very big part in fifth grade. The teachers are kind until you miss assignments. Ms. V is very big on respect. Be respectful, and you won't have a problem. Mr. Moore is very big on behavior. You have good behavior and you'll be just fine. There will be some times when you will be confused and won't have a clue what you're doing. That is just fine. All of us feel lost at times. N ow, with the computers you must be very careful about what you do. If you leave the website you are supposed to be on and go to another website, you won't be happy with the results. All of the students are briefed on all the rules at the beginning of the year. I'm not quite sure if you will be using the computers at the beginning of the year, so be ready for the new school year. Calwood is an amazing place, as long as you follow these simple rules;
-Do not go outside the given boundaries
These will be given to you at the oreintation and during hikes
-Lights out at 9:30
-When it is your turn for clean up/set up, do it
-Do not start fights
-Be kind with your words and actions
-Have fun!!!
Fifth grade really is great once you get past the worries and drama. So, next year enjoy yourselves since it's your last year in elementary school.
Sincerely,
Cheyanne

Dear Future Fifth Graders,
I must give you some advise before you step into the world of fifth grade because it can be very hard sometimes in fifth grade. First, you should always get all of your homework done before you go to class because if you do not have all of your homework completed you will unleash mean V and you do not want that to happen because then you will get Mr. Moore involved and you would not like the seen of that. Second, when/if you go to cal-wood you should make sure to fallow the instructions because if you get a strike then you are two steps away from earning the right to go back to the school and find a teacher that will keep you doing work. You should just always fallow the rules at cal-wood because you do not want to loose out on the fun that they have there or especially the food that they have there it is so good. Next, the fifth grade teachers have more expectations then your fellow fourth grade teachers ad what I mean by that is they will not except any excuses or they might start the strike system for the end of the year event. You do not want to miss out on that fun because if you got nine strikes you would not be able to got to the event. That would be a bummer because you will get all kinds of cool things and if nine strikes you loose all of your rewards to Mr. Moore and he has no problem with doing so. Last, when you are writing about something you should never not push your thinking because the teachers will not publish your work if you do not push your thinking. For example,

“My mom went to the store and had fun”
Jonney

Here is the thing of pushing your thinking.

“My mom went to the store because she had to get some food supplies and while she did she had lots of fun”

That is what the teachers will want to expect from you because you guys are future fifth graders and when you go into the real thing. . .
There will be no turning back. Once you go through the door, it is a whole new world and it is more different then it is in fifth grade.

Fifth grade student,
Andrew

P.S
Good luck on your journey.

Dear Future Fifth Graders,
I think that if you want to be good in fifth grade you need meet your expectations. One expectation that you need to complete your homework. If you do not complete your homework your grades will go to a zero, even if you had in ''A.'' I think that homework is one of the most problems in fifth grade because some students think that they should not be doing your homework. Next comes using your compter. If you do not take care of your computer you will not get to use one. Next is Cal-Wood. In Cal-Wood you need to behave and act as you were in school. If you do not follow the rules in Cal-Wood it will not be fun because you could get in trouble. If you do not follow everything you can get in trouble with the teacher and it will not be fun. Here are two rules that you should follow:
1.Always complete your homework.
Some homework you will have are reading, IGR, current events, patches, study links, DLI, spelling, read and highlight science articles, study spelling, and study High Frequency Words.

2.Always follow the directions.
Some directions you need to follow are always do what the teacher says to do.

I think that fifth grade will not be hard if you do what your told.

Dear future 5th graders,
You need to know a lot of things about 5th grade to become a succesful 5th grader. Those things are Cal-Wood, homework, and for sure expectations. You will have to remember these next year.

Lets first talk about Cal-Wood. Cal-Wood is very fun and will be the funnest field trip you will ever go on. You will be there for 4 days. You have to have many things to keep you warm if it's cold. At the same time you need summer things in your pack. You will visit many thing at Cal-Wood. You will go down to a lake, hiking to go visit far away places. You even get to visit a mica mind that was used a long time ago. You will learn about the history that happened on Cal-Wood. The rules of Cal-Wood are simple. They are just like the same ones in your class room. They serve great food. You get to have free time before it is time for food. You will be assigned to a cabin. They have separate cabins for boys and girls. You will have a lot of fun at Cal-Wood.

Next, we will talk about homework. You will get a ton of homework. You have to get it done or it will badly reflect on your grade. You don't miss recess but you get bad grades on your report card. I had to learn that the hard way. At the beginning of the year, I was doing good on tests, but I never got my homework done. That put all of my grades down to a C. The homework you have is 25 minutes of reading, DLI, spelling worksheet, patch, articles to read and highlight, and the hardest a current event. If you don't know what a patch is, it is a two page hand written short story. If you do a patch on a computer, it has to be one page or more. You will get in a lot of trouble when you do your homework. A current event is when you have to find something that has lately happened and that you can wright the same amount as a patch. Beware, if you are in Mr. Moore's class, he will get very picky. In Ms. Vander Velde's class she will let out Mean V. Mean V is when Ms. V turns to her evil side. You never want that to happen. Trust me. It has happened to me before.

Last, we will talk about the expectations. Those expectations are simple to follow. They are listed below.
1.Home work turned in on time and completed.
2.Stay on task.
3.When on the Triple es, you need to be on the site that she told you.
4.When told to do something you should do it.
5.Do your best in school.

These are Ms. V's biggest 5 rules of bringing out Mean V.

These are all of the basic things you will have to know for 5th grade.
From,
Jody

Dear 5th graders,
The thing that you need to do in school is that you need to do your homework, because if you didn't do your homework you need to stay in lunch recess and be reading for like about some minutes and maybe you would have strikes like we started the next week or I think it was the other month I don't remember about it and so you need to do the right thing in school and be respectful and when we went to CALL -WOOD some people when we went to sleep we needed to do our homework about what we learned and what happen and we needed to finish about like three or more pages and for total we need about like 15 or more pages and I couldn't finished any of does pages and I could not write any more and that is why you need to learn more and be respectful to each other and helped more people by enemies and if you have a problem just tell your teacher or tell in the office of what problem you have and then they would help you and they will be taking care of you and safe from other enemies and that will happen to you when you are with your mom and sometimes that could happen to you and you really need to stay with your family so they can take care of you and well I kind of don't know what else to say. So do what you really need to do and not bad stuff like fighting with other people and stay out of enemies. So have a great time and do what I said.

Your friend,
Viridiana

Dear Future 5th graders,
The things you guys should know is that you have to do your best every day of the school year. That is one expectations I 5th grade. One thing that you should know about 5th grade is that there is something that the teachers Mr. Moore & Ms.VanderVelde call “Pushing You Thinking”. That means that you try to go higher thinking. So that means that you try to make connection and other things. Another thing that you guys should know about is the homework. For homework if you don`t turn it in, it is a zero in the grade book. If it happens for a long time YOU and Ms.VanderVelde call home and you have to tell your mom or dad what you did. If it keeps happing you miss out on the cool things that you do in 5th grade. The last things is Cal-Wood. Cal-Wood is the field trip that only 5th grade takes in the beaning of the year. There are rules that Ms.VanderVelde & Mr. Moore have when you guys are in Cal-Wood. The rules are...

*Do what the people that are up there
*You have to write every night before bedtime
*Don`t get in tribal or your parents have to come and pick you up
*Do what the teachers tell you to do
*Don`t scare anyone
*The number ONE rule is don`t get Mr. Moore mad
Those are the things that you need to look forward to in 5th grade.

Dear future fifth graders,
Thouh you might think fifth grade isbjust another graon tde.It is not it is the last year of elelmentary school. No matter who you are you should not be the that will get in truoble. The following rules will help you in school.
One do all your home work!
Two Ms.V or Mean V and Mr. Evil are mean espicially Mr. Evil or a.k.a Mr. Moore.
Three get good grades or fail fifth grade.
Four make suree your on the good sides of the teachers or you are dead.
Five current events are every week. :(
Current events are two pionts in grade so do them or else oh yah I don't lnow what else is but I probably guess it's bad.
Six always do your pacth.A pacth is basically a little piece of writing at the beginning of the year they are at least one page long then a little bit later they become two pages long.so have a good imagination.
Sincerely,
Ruben.z

Dear Future Fifth Grade Students,
I want to tell you a little bit about fifth grade. Well it is really fun, and we get to do many great things like go to Cal-Wood and stuff like that.

The First that I want to talk about is Cal-Wood. Well for us we went to Cal-Wood for 3 days and 2 nights, but you guys are going for a week... I think. Cal-Wood was really fun we did stuff like go to a Mica Mine, and we also went to a waterfall. But the only bad part was that it was frozen, so if you go to see it don't step on the ice or else you'll fall trust me that's what happened to me.When we were there we saw a lot of elk. So if you wake up in the morning and you find scat on the floor don't be shocked (Scat is the word for poop). I hope that you guys have a lot of fun in Cal-Wood ... Oh and don't step on scat.

Another thing that I want to talk about is Mean V. Well if your going g to be in Ms.Vander Velde's class look out for mean V. Mean V is the other side of M s.V. Mean V only comes out when somebody forgets their homework, don't walk in the hall quietly, forget your current event, or something like that. So look out for Mean V!

Speaking of current events I want to tell you about them. In first place a current event is a homework that is due on Friday, and it has to be about something that happened outside Colorado. Oh and it has to be something that you find on the internet or hear in the news. Here are some examples on what you might find:
1.Murder
2.A car accident
3.Or Global Warming

I hope that you guys have a lot of fun and learn a lot, and remember to do you homework, because you don't want Mean V to come out.

Dear The Future Fifth Graders,
The 5th grade is going to be hard because yo nku have to do a lot of things. You won't be playing in class because if you do you get in trouble. You don't get that much field trips like in the other grades you only get three field trips in all of the year. Now we are going to talk about Cal-Wood,cal-wood is up the mountain and stay for three or four day and three nights. It is fun going up there. You are going to sleep in some cabins with a teacher and some other kids.Sometimes you get to go to some other places and look around. When you come back from cal-wood in a cool truck. In 5th grade you would be tired of doing things, but sometimes you have parties in class. You have to pay more attention to the teachers because if you don't you get in trouble.

Dear New 5th graders,

I am going to tell you all about the expectations in 5th grade. The first thing you need to know is to always try your best and to always push your thinking. Next you should try to always do you homework and be respectful to the other class mates ad teachers and other adults. Cal-Wood and the triple e's are very cool things but you should at least try to be better at everything you do because thats why your teachers work so hard to put all those cool stuff. This year we had a strike system. It was about if you don't bring your homework you get a strike and if you are talking to much, miss behaving or something worst strike. And if we had a certain number of strikes you might lose field day, continuation and or other things that will come at the end of the year. Mr.Moore says he is not doing it again because it doesn't work. And I agree with him because punishments don't work and they never will work. I hope you have as much fun as I did in 5th grade.
Also I'm going to tell you all about the cool technology that you will be able to use this year or next year. For example the Triple Eee's they are so cool. You can do so many thing with them. Like write in a document for writing or you can look for stuff that you're learning about in the delicious books marks you might also have your own pb workspace pg. You might also have your own blog where you can do so many thing with it. Next I'm going to tell you about the SMART board it is so cool because you can play math games and many more stuff. The fifth grade class rooms are special because we have to projectors so if you have to make a presentations you won't be taking tons of time to get it set up. So really work hard to get your legacy just like us, make everyone want to come to east.

Sincerly
Denisse

Dear future 5th graders,
I really have enjoyed this last year that I have spent together with my whole class and the entire 5th grade. I wanted to let you know that school won't be the same next year. In fact it will be even better than you expect it. It is your job to carry the legacy that we 5th graders have created. I think that you have the power to succeed in 5th grade and for the entire rest of your life because if we can do it so can you. Cal-Wood was a very interesting experience that I just can not explain. It wasn't just a fun trip that we had taken just for fun. It's not the fun that matters it's about the moments and memories that you will cherish and keep on making them alive that will be with you. 5th grade is just non-stop fun. I can understand you wondering about homework, perhaps you might not like homework but once you get interested in the activities and the fun that you find within the learning it really isn't much. Our 5th grade expectation is to bring your homework on time! That is almost like the number one priority that you need to have, aside from staying focused. Trust me, if you bring all of your homework in at the time that it needs to be brought, than you are okay for the rest of 5th grade. But just don't bring your homework if it isn't done because you are stuck in some trouble and you'll be caught in a temporal loop that you can't get out of for the rest of 5th grade. You really need to live up to your expectations when it comes to staying focused and bringing your homework. If I were you I would try to be on my best behavior to be the best that you can. One of the coolest things about 5th grade is the smart board. I know maybe its just a board and it's touch but I guess that when you are doing a presentation for the class you can use that or you can even use pictures to add to your presentation. I think that 5th grade was the best year that I had gone though in my entire years in elementary school. My whole point about this is that, if you stay focused you will achieve great and bigger things in 5th grade that you never will imagine. And if you do that you can even live up to your dream without even noticing it. If you stay focused really great things will hit you in 5th grade and this isn't just to let you know that those things are going to happen in 5th grade but also it will help you in life.
The kid of homework that we had in 5th grade was the following: Read 25 minutes or more, write 1 entire page of writing witch we call a patch, a current event witch has to be 2 hand written pages or a typed full page that has to be 12 point font and this is due every Friday, sometimes the teachers would give us a science article and we would have to highlight or underline the most important parts of the article. Sometimes we would have the choice of looking up information about a subject and then we won't have to do as much work at school and get more free time and get it done faster. That is pretty much it other than having a study link for math and thats almost like the homework that we would have in the middle of the year. In the beginning you may say that it is a lot but trust me you will get used to it and it will get easier as you go more towards the end of the year but you'll get the hang of it you just got to focused!

Iratny :-}

Dear future fifth graders,
What we guys are going to expect when you go to fifth grade is going to be a lot of stuffed but I'm going to tell you what you have to do here I go first of all you guys have to be respectful to all the teachers in the building and have to be quiet when both of the fifth grade teachers say.On the other hand another thing you guys have to do is that you have to do math minutes in 2 minutes not in 4 minutes. In addition in math you are going to take a lot of math test so I think that you guys should study in the summer and listen when the teacher are talking given directions. When you realize that you guys are going to use the brang new laptops if you don't wanted to pay for them when they get broken use them nicely and correct. This is important because you guys don't wanted to go home and tell your parents that you need to pay a computer. Here are some rules about Miss Vander Velde her is one
.Do your homework everyday
.Be Respectful to others
.Miss Vander Velde can turn into Mean V really fast
.Don't make Mr.Moore mad are you are going too be sorry
If you guys do this thing Mean V is not going to come out or Mr.Moore.On the other hand here are more rules for Cal-Wood
.Don't do nothing that you are not asked to do
.listen when the people are talking
.Have to followed the rules there or Mr.Sulmin is going to come and get you and bring you here back to school
.Do the right things
If you do this thing you don't have to worried about nothing. In addition here are some things that you should do when the cow eye and the pigs heart come don't started until you are asked to.Another thing is be respectful to the people that are talking.Another thing is don't do a mess and after you guys are done clean up after yourself. When you guys have problem you guys have to figure it out before Miss Vander Velde and Mr.Moore found out. There is going to be a strike system like at the end of the year for field day and the secret field trip it is really fun and for the graduaction the you guys are going to do on the last Thursday.that are some advice about what you guys are going to do when you guys go to fifth grade. Also we have to push your thinking when writing comes. Here is your schedule for the day
first is going to be the first bell and then the second bell then specials then math then litercy then lunch then science then writing then another litercy then is going to be then end of the day and you get to go home.Oh another thing you guys are going to have a lot of homework.
Sincerely,
Evelin

Dear Future Fifth Graders,

I will give you advise on fifth grade next year and how things to you will probably be.

First I want to tell you about Cal-Wood. Cal-Wood to me was the best trip ever. Cal-Wood is in Bolder and is next to Balarat. You will get there and when you do, you will have to walk one forth of a mile to get to the cabins. We were so tired by the time we even got to the cabins but we wanted to have fun any way. You will be divided in to groups for walking each day and groups in your cabin. Don't worry, if your a boy you will have all boys in your cabin and if your a girl you will have all girls in your cabin. I know the teachers and they will try to have some of your friends in your cabin but when I went to Cal-Wood I didn't get to be in the cabin with my best friend but I got some of my really good friends. You will also have an adult in your cabin with you so you won't do any crazy things while your there. I had really fun at Cal-Wood but the two things that were my favorite were the night walk when you get to walk a certain distance by yourself and see the stars and that night it was a shower of stars and I saw four or five shooting stars and the other thing is I liked when we went to go see the Mica Mine. The Mica Mine is like glitter and its the stuff that make-up people put in their make-up. When you go to Cal-Wood you will never forget the memories.

Next I am going to tell you about homework!
Everybody doesn't like like homework and if you do you are just crazy. (No efence!) Well at the beginning of the year it is just a little challenge but you'll get used to it and when it gets closer and closer to the end of the year it gets harder and harder but you will catch on. If you don't do your homework you will have some kind of consequence and they are not good. When Ms. Vander Velde and Mr. Moore give you homework they expect you to do it and if you don't you won't be successful for the rest of fifth grade. If you do what you are told you have no problem for the rest of the year. Maybe you'll become one of Ms. V's helpers. Homework is a big deal in education and fifth grade because you have to do it to accomplish things that you want to accomplish. When you do that you even get better and more comfortable at fifth grade. Homework is a huge deal to get good grades on your report card!!

Finally I am going to tell you about the expectations for fifth graders to always push your thinking.

When you have the laptops(triple e's, eee's) to do stuff on like writing a letter, or even blogging and post a comment. If you are in Ms. V's and Mr. Moore's IGR group you have job and they are hard and every time you post a comment you always have to push your thinking no matter what. If you don't, most likely they will practicully reject it and tell you to write more!

Fifth grade is hard but really fun!

I think that you should still do the expectations that you have learned at this school like for a example you should still follow the rules. I am now going to give you advice for fifth grade. One of the thing that you might learn about is how to make a personal narrative which is basically like a made up story and you might have to come up with characters. In math you will need to now how to find the volume of a shape and you might need to find both the area of the perimeter of shapes. In science you will need to learn about body part such as the stomach or the liver and if you don't know what the liver is you'll have to find out in fifth grade. You will need to use a jump drive which is the same thing as a little computerized little chip that saves your work that you have placed in the computer. You will get to use a smart board which is a board that you might have seen in the computer lab and the music lab. The fifth grade teacher all have one that you will use to play games but that will probably only happen on not more than three days. You will also use the smart board to do demonstrations like when we did a presentation about the revolutionary war and what were the acts that were involved in the war. You might have three groups that go to different specials. You might already be doing that and if you are I am sorry I just shared this information to you. You will also learn that you will need to push your thinking even more than you did before. In fifth grade you will have a party to celebrate you leaving fifth grade and elementary school forever to learn. In fifth you will need to turn in all you books in the library so they will not get lost and then you will need to pay a lot of money to the library just because you lost one book for the week. You will probably have to do 100 multiplication facts in two minutes or even less! You might probably know this but you will go to Cal-Wood longer than us because I know that we stated there for three days and two night and you guys might be spending four days and three nights over there so you guys are indeed lucky. On field day you might be doing more stuff than all the other grades because fifth grade is your last year here so make the good times last. If I were you I would probably listen other fifth graders and see what they say about you. I hope that this will teach you to be better students later on. Last Thank you for listening to me.

Dear Fifth Grade Teacher,

My name is Miguel and I have five people in my house. I like animals and dragons. At home I take the trash out. If I don't take the trash out I don't get to watch TV. I have a sister in third grade, next year she is going to be in fourth grade.

My strength is reading and writing. I like writing about my family. My weakness is math because I don't remember my facts so much. Sometimes I don't do my homework but most of the time I do my homework. I listen to the teacher all the time. I always treid my best.

This year I am thinking of Cal-Wood. I wonder if there are bears in Cal-Wood because my sister is worried I would be eaten by one. Is their raccoons there? They are cool animals. I hope I see a mountain lion.

Your friend,
Miguel

Dear Future Fifth Graders,

There are many things you guys should know about fifth grade but here are the important things I have to say.First of all Cal-Wood will be fun but you have to be on your best behavior over there because you are still learning.Always be paying attention and be careful what you are doing and don't leave the teachers sight. The cabins will be fun to be in also but you have to keep them clean and you CAN NOT go in other people's cabins. You can only knock on their door and ask them if they want to play in the lodge or something like that.If you want to play around the cabins it would be fine but you can't leave and wander off. This reminds me of the time when in Cal-Wood we did a volley ball match Boys VS Girls which was really fun.The next thing you should know is HOMEWORK it can really get you sometimes. There is also a little twist to it Ms.V will probably hire someone to be homework checker. The person that does that will probably go soft on you and be nice but Ms.V will get a little mad at you who knows.Homework would be easy to do when you do it early but if you do it early there will be nothing to do.So I do my homework at about 5 or 6 o'clock which isn't really hard but o.k.There are also so many expectations to know but I don't have that much time to type.First of all you always have to be respectful to everybody in the building and the teachers especially even if Ms.V and Mr.Moore aren't looking.Be the best listener you can be and if your not the best listener then when you get called on you won't know the answer. That has happened to me once before it isn't fun because you have to solve it in front of everyone. The biggest thing you should watch out for is that you don't want to let Mean V out because it will not be fun.At all. Here are also some other rules like that be careful stepping in the bathroom. Also do not cross Ms.V's imaginary line to her desk because that is rude and Ms.V will not be happy unless she lets you.The most important thing is that the teachers care about all of the students.

Sincerely,Emiliano
P.S Please be careful and watch out for anything that is weird and not normal in fifth grade.

Dear Future 5th Graders,

I hope that you will be able to continue what we started this year in 5th grade. You might sometimes think that Mr. Moore or Ms. V are being though on you but that just means that they haven't given up you. You also have some pretty interesting things coming up in 5th grade as you move into the year. You will also be happy Mr. Moore isn't going to do the strike system next year, if he had he would have given the whole class a strike by the first week if they aren't somewhere near perfect.
You will also be able to go to Cal-Wood for four days. If you are lucky enough you will have nice weather like we did this year. When you go to Cal-Wood don't think you are out of problems and out school because you are still in school will be sent home if you act crazy like they can't sent you home.
The thing you might not like about 5th grade is afternoon recess. After you come from Cal-Wood you might not get recess in the afternoon. You might not like the idea of missing afternoon recess at first but after a while you will get used to it.
The thing you will remember the most is cotinuation because it is the most important time of elementary school.

Dear Fourth graders,
We the past fifth graders of East have made an astonishing reputation for ourselves and the whole school. When we leave our legacy will still be at East. Please, please, don't mess that up. We have all worked so hard on everything. And if you mess that whats going to happen to you as fifth graders. Your probably not going to be as popular as us if you do that. Imagine if you were a third grader. they wouldn't be exited for fifth grade because they would now that you guys messed there reputation up. So please be good in fifth grade. I know all of you guys are probably exited about Cal-Wood. And I really don't blame you for it. But if you don't have our legacy in mind you may loose that privilege. The next thing I'm going to tell you guys about is homework. Homework is a big factor in fifth grade. Take that from some one who knows. From some one in the beginning of the year rarely got all of his homework done. And trust me you don't want to miss any homework in the year 2009-2010. We have so much technology. The thing that you fourth graders mostly are focused on are the triple E's. And sure they are pretty cool but there are so much more technology than that. Theres a smart board. No wonder it called a smart board it does so many cool stuff on it. The coolest thing for me though is how you can touch it and something magically appears. Its not only the technology thats fun in fifth grade. its the dissections. It was so fun dissecting pigs harts and cow eye ball. gross but fun. Have a good school year.

Dear,new 5th graders
The expectations in 5th grade is always do your homework because there was a kid 5th grade and we had a strike system and if we did not do our work we would get a strike and he got all 9 strikes and then he still did not do his work now he has 12 or 14 strikes,I only had 2 and I still do it's amazing. In school we do writing and we have a chart that has pushing our thinking about reading and that means to not just say we like pizza push your thinking say some thing better like I like pizza with mushrooms, cheese, pepperoni and some other stuff thats pushing your thinking. Then you are going to have a pass word so you can get in your folder it's not like a folder but it is in the computer and with a whole lots of files.

You guy have seen the smart bored well you guys are going to use it in 5th grade next year that is if some of you do come to 5th grade if you do then cool you will do lots of experiments but lets not get in to that yet where was I oh yeah you guys are going to us the smart (technology) a lot. All right lets get to the good stuff like the dissections you guys are going to dissect a pigs heart and a cows eye but you guy are going to be told step by step instructions well I will tell you one more thing you guys can still have fun but what comes first your learning or playing out side write us back please we just want to know what comes to your mind first out side or school so do your work and have fun but more importantly do your work.

Dear 5th grade teachers

My name is Marcus. I am currently in Mrs. Springston's class. My favorite things include drawing, sleeping and swimming.
My best subjects are math and science. This is because my dad gets on me about that stuff and teaches me every weekend. My weaknesses are reading, talking to my friends, and not getting my homework done. I think I could get my homework done by working with my preprints on it. School is fun because I get to learn stuff that I don't know.
I am really looking forward to meeting you and going to Cal-wood. I hear from all the 5th graders it is lots of fun. Last I am wanting to learn more about our body. One question, do we get to dissect an eyeball?

Sincerely,
Marcus

Dear Fifth Grade Teacher,
Hi my name is Ivan and I like cars and i love field trips and soccer. My birthday is on June 5. My family is mostly fun to be with them. Also they're all pretty cool. I have a big brother named Erick and a smaller brother named Omar and my Mom and Dad. But there's another boy or girl we don't know yet. Also I love video games! My jobs at my house are to sometimes fold my sheets with my Mom. But I don't do that much chores around my house cause my mom or my big brother do them almost all so there are not so much to say.
In fourth grade my strengths are science, reading, and also a little math. I have gotten good grades on science but on math it is very hard to stay focused on what ever the teachers are saying. Like I say, math is not my best and that's because it's one of my weaknesses cause I don't pay attention or I lose focus. My homework in fourth grade was kind of easy but when I get lots of homework I ask if I can get started on it in class.
Next year I'm excited for Cal-Wood cause I would of asked my cousin Denisse but she didn't go to Cal-Wood. So I want to find out for my self if Cal-Wood is really going to be cool cause it is going to be up in the mountains. I'm also excited to learn from my new teacher who ever it is. I'm also excited to be the biggest kids in East Elementary School and I'm glade there are two great teachers in fifth grade to teach all of the fourth graders all they have to tell us or teach us.

Your Future Student

Next year will be super fantastic you guys will want to be in 5th over and over again.

Dear future fifth graders,
Fifth grade is going to be very hard it was for me and it will be for you. What you can do to be successful is work very hard and keep your thinking straight because let me tell you, you are not going to have your afternoon recess so, Good Luck. What can I say about Cal-Wood I don't know because I didn't go but anyways if you don't get to go you stay with a substitute and get to do normal things that you do in class but a little differently than you usually do. What is a good thing is for you is that you kids don't have to do the strike system. The strike system is when you don't do your homework or have good behavior you basically get a strike, you won't have to worry about the strike system.

Dear soon-to-be 5th graders,
This simple piece of writing will help you out a lot in 5th grade. It sounds silly, I know. Just know that it will help you, and just get that statement in your mind, and you can stop thinking. There is one explanation and one tip, but they are a lot of help. And listen carefully, to the tips and explanations that will lead to success in 5th grade.

Dear Fifth Grade Teacher,

My name is GuoXin and I live with my mom and dad. I have a sister, but she is in China. I have seen her, but I was very little when I saw her. So I don't know how she looks like. My family and like to go on long walks. My jobs at home are to take out the trash, wash the dishes .
4th grade was very good. My strengths are math and history. Each morning school starts The area I can approve on is writing. The homework in 4th grade was pretty easy. Sometimes the homework was kind of hard. Vlad, Anjelica, Ashley, and I have been hanging out with each other the whole year.
In 5th grade I hope I could be in the same class with Vlad, Anjelica, and Ashley. I am really excited about Cal-Wood. I can't wait to go to Cal-Wood. Are we going to use the white Triple EEE's next year? If we are it is going to be cool. I am really really excited about next year.

Dear Future 5th Graders,

Let's start with the homework, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we have to do a page of writing, it's not hard at all. It has to be a full page and dated. We always have to read 20 minutes or more and study multiplication and division facts. You get math most of the time, unless were not on a unit. One more thing of homework is the current event, this is how it works, over the weekend you either cut an article out of a newspaper or maybe print one out off the computer. The news has to happen within the month. Then when they check for it on Monday, you have until Friday to write a two page essay on it, or one page on the computer.

I guarantee you that Cal-Wood will be one of the best experiences of your life. We got to stay in cabins with a 1 teacher per cabin. The food is very delicious. We went on a 4 mile hike to the Mica Mines and we studied microscopic water bugs in the lake. There also is a scavenger hunt where we go into groups of two with a piece of paper and we have to find stamps that are hidden in the trees and stamp our papers as proof that we found it. We also hiked down a hill to a house that was built in the early 1900's. On the way back we were all sad that we had to go.

The expectations are that you get your homework in everyday or you start to lose privileges like recess. You also have to listen to the teacher when they're talking and always be quiet when you're in line so you also don't lose privileges as well. Boys are not allowed together in line at all. But, Mr. Moore and Ms.V have worked very hard to get me and my class where they are so if you listen to these tips you will keep our legacy strong.

Good luck,
Sophia

(continued)

My tip is this: Do Your Homework. I have two reasons to back my idea up. My first reason is, if you do your homework, you'll create a humongous smile on the teachers' faces, and that will make you proud. Even if they do not reward you for it, just know it's the right thing and keep doing it. It seems boring to do in 5th grade, since there are not 'hard' consequences, but just ignore that feeling. Believe what you're reading. If you keep doing this, it will soon become a habit, and it will help you A LOT for the rest of your life. As you go into middle school, high school, and college, there will be harder and worse consequences you're going to have to go through if you don't do you homework. Just know it. I'm not sure what the cost is in high school and college, but one of the consequences in middle school is detention. You might have heard this word many times, and you might know the meaning, however, I'll just explain it. Detention is something the teachers require you to do if you don't do your homework. You have to stay after school and talk to the teacher, and sometimes, the teacher calls the parent. You do NOT want that to happen. Trust me, you DO NOT.

~Narah
*there are still more pieces

The second reason is one you all know-the staying in for recess, bla, bla bla. But it's not the same in 5th grade. Oh no, it is totally different. At first, you do stay in for recess, but then if you keep forgetting to do your homework, it leads to, I don't know. Worse consequences. At one point, it got so worse in our class that Mr. Moore and Ms. Vandervelde made something called a 'strike system.' If anyone misses his or her homework or misbehaves, he or she gets a strike. So this is the thing- 3 strikes: you miss Field day, 6 strikes: you miss a special field trip we went to this year, and 9 strikes: boy, this one is a blow- you miss continuation. But don't worry. Everyone participated in all three activities, not that they didn't have any strikes, but they just did after a long discussion. And don't worry. Mr. Moore and Ms. V (Ms. Vandervelde) won't do the strike system EVER again. But you know what I mean, right?! Just do your homework.
My explanation is on Cal-Wood. First of all, it's AWESOME! You're going to spend 4 nights in Cal-Wood, and you're going to have LOTS of pure FUN! I mean it. A thing I'm warning you about is-you will have to write in a journal they will give you. You will have to write each day, and the average pages a day, I think, is 3 a day. I'm not sure though. Mr. Moore& Ms. V has not decided yet. At least for you guys. But be careful. Each night, Mr. Moore and Ms. V checks your journal to see if you wrote the pages they expect you to, so you have to write often. You HAVE to. Or they will get you busted. And do NOT write all about your secrets and private stuff in the journal because the teachers are going to see all of it. Trust me, you do not want to do that. You can bring your OWN diary, something Mr. Moore and Ms. V is not going to look at. My favorite part was when we went on this scavenger hunt, where you find these clips with a map, and you try to find the clips with a partner that is in YOUR group. Oh, another thing. You will be divided into groups. Two groups. One for the cabin, and one for an activity group. Moving on, each clip has a letter on it, and you clip it on the back of your activity Cal-Wood journal (not the journal you write in). So, it's pretty fun. Your activity group leader will teach you how to read the map and everything. Everything else you will have to know about Cal-Wood, you will learn at Cal-Wood. One last thing I'm mentioning- the bus ride is L-O-N-G. Just in case you get bored or motion sick in a long bus ride. Just don't get nervous, and HAVE FUN!
The last thing I want to say is, p-lease follow my tips, and put my explanations in your minds. Please. This really means a lot to me. Please. And another favor-enjoy 5th grade, enjoy learning in 5th grade, alright?! My name is Narah, and 5th grade was an awesome year for me. Please follow what I just wrote, and please enjoy 5th grade.

~5th grader, Narah~

Dear Fifth Grade Teacher,

Hi, my name is Raymond, I am ten years old. I have one sister and she will be in seventh grade when I'm in fifth grade. We live in an apartment in Littleton. I like to read a lot of book. I play soccer at recess.

In fourth grade my favorite time is when Mrs.Eggleston read us a book and she picked a good book like “Mick Harte Was Here” and “Danny the Champion Of the World”. My favorite homework is when we do a story problem. My favorite subjects are math, spelling, reading, and history. My least favorite subject is language arts.

I am already excited to go to Cal-Wood because I've been to the Cal-Wood meeting and it seems exciting like going hiking. I hope I will do well in fifth grade like do my homeork on time. I hope I will be with Vlad next year. I hope I can learn a lot in your class.

Your friend,
Raymond

Dear future fifth graders,

I just want to say a few things about fifth grade. It's not bad or anything but here is some advice. First of all are the computers you guys will use them a lot you will use them for spelling city, fact monster, science and lots of other things. The next thing is bring your homework everyday not only so that you dont get in trouble but for your grades too. Another thing is that Miss.V can turn into mean V when you don't behave. Another is when you use your computer go to sites where your teacher tells you to and not to other sites where your not supposed to. Always pay attention to what the teacher says because if you don't you wont even know what to do and trust me that's bad. You also have to be prepared for field trips that you guys will take. You also have to know the rules.
The first rule is never talk back to a teacher including your teacher.
The second rule is always bring your homework including current events.
The third rule is always be respectful and be nice because Miss.V will always remind you.
The fourth rule is always listen to your teacher because ir you don't she will know and she will ask you a question and you don't even know what to say or what to do.
Never forget these rules and you will have an awesome year trust me.
Your friend Jessica.

I play the violin and the drums.I have one little brother named Ian.My parents are divorced and my Dad is going to get re-married up camping in June with his girlfriend Lauri. I have two dogs and one cat.I am the only girl child in both families. This year in fourth grade my strengths were math and reading. I think that I will need help on my neatness. I am not very organized and I need help. In fifth grade I am looking forward to Cal-Wood and cutting a cow eye.

There a lot of things that you man and woman need to no. At Cow Wood there is a lot of things that you need to do at that place. The instructed at Cow Wood or the bets people that you can meet they are the people wood tack care of you. If you do not like math it is going to be fun. There is going to be a smart bard in the room guest like the one in the computer lab. The computers that we have are going to be the one that you are going to have next year. There the best computer that we have they are cool. There are a lot of thing that you have to learn.

Dear incoming 5th graders,
I want you kids to follow our old 5th grade legacy. If you don't know what legacy means it means something that happens or exists as a result of things that happened at an earlier time. What you guys should do is to do your homework and return it back in time because by doing your homework you can get smarter and the other thing is that just get use to it. the most cool thing in 5th grade is that you get to go camping for five days at Cal-Wood, make sure to ask your parents. Cal-Wood is the best you'll get to lots of stuff like go down to the lake, go o night hikes and trust me you think its so scary to walk by your self we felt that way to but its not scary at all. the other thing that you should expect is that you might get privileges we did its was so fun. You should be so respectful because Mr. Moore can take the privileges away from you. the other things is that the technology you might have laptops in your 4th grade class but theres more technology like the smart board, the projectors, and other things.
Sincerely,

Dear future 5th graders,
The expectations in this class are really high because we have worked so hard to do our best. However, doing our job isn't the most important to all of us, the thing that that I would say is most important is our reputation and how many people have noticed our school. What I am mainly trying to say is that we would be grateful if you, the incoming 5th graders keep our reputation going, so that more people will come to visit the school.
Some advice that you should know for fifth grade is the following. 1st , you should definitely bring your homework everyday. next you should always be on task and be on you best behavior. Last you should just have fun, because if your on task and have fun at the same time, you'll have the best year ever.
Consequences only occur when were off task have missing assignment, or when we are just not doing as told. Although when your on task, the class or an individual kid has a chance of getting rewarded. You shouldn't just do your job to get rewarded you should to it because thats what expected of you, and the thing is, if you do your job to get rewarded, and you don't it will be disappointed.
Pushing your thinking is really important in 5th grade because if you just have a short sentence and you push your thinking it shows how superior your writing can really be. There are all sorts of ways for pushing your thinking so you can use it in many different types of writing.
Hopefully you'll have a great time at Cal-Wood because even though were still learning at Cal-Wood, it seems like it all fun. Probably because all the instructors were nice and funny. Taking the night hikes were interesting because, you didn't know what they were planning on doing or where they were taking you so it was adventures. Down time, or in other words free time, was fun because we had a lot of choices to choose from for our free time, such as playing volley ball, talking with are friends, or you could be in the loge doing and playing all sorts of things. One event that I really enjoyed doing was the camp fire. At the camp fire, we sang songs and made up plays with our cabin groups then performed them while some one video taped them. We also played a lot of games towards the end of Cal-Wood. The one thing that I experienced at Cal-Wood that I didn't like was, taking only one shower for 5 minutes. I hope that all the thing that I have wrote will have an impact on how you treat your advantages of being a 5th grader

sincerely,

Torsha

Dear Future 5th Graders,

I would like to tell you a little about 5th grade, so you will be able to make it through. As you already probably know, in 5th grade you will get two fantastic teachers, who wish nothing but to point you down the right path on your way to success.
One of the things I would like you to know, is that in 5th grade, we are all a family. If one of us goes down, the rest go down with you. Another thing that you need to know is that with Mr. Moore and Ms. VanderVelde, every year is different and special. One place I know you will go for sure is Cal-Wood. At Cal-Wood, you will spend 4 days in the wilderness and with mother nature. You will also be able to feel the joy of being out in the mountains, where your free to investigate and explore. It will be like a vacation to Hawaii. Trust me.
You are probably wondering if 5th grade has a lot of rules and expectations, and I'm hear to tell you that there are plenty of expectations, but really, it is all fun. For example, during writing, it used to be boring with just paper and pencil, and now that we have lap tops, we can go to the PB workspace, and do our writing there.
The laptops are another topic that I want to discuss. In 5th grade you will have the privilege to have the triple e's in the classroom. Personally, I think that the little lap tops have been a big part in a 5th graders life, because, well, lets just say that kids love computers, and now that they get to use them for writing, gets them more excited about writing. Another cool technology tool in the classroom, is the smart board. With the smart board, kids can write almost anything, and the cool thing is that they don't have to use the pen, they can just pick it up and use their finger instead.
Now, I told you the best parts of 5th grade, now lets get to rules and expectations. In 5th grade, Mr. Moore and Ms VanderVelde, expect you to be able to push your thinking. Have you ever heard a teacher say to think outside the box? In 5th grade, they expect you to be out of the box.
Well, that's it for now, and I hope that you keep the 5th grade family together, because if one of us leaves the family, the rest will follow. For me, I would say that the biggest part of 5th grade and our success is Mr. Moore and Ms. VanderVelde, because they pushed us to our limits until we were able to blow their minds away with our writing. Personally, if I was asked to give a description of Mr. Moore and Ms. VanderVelde, I would say that they are like a second pair of parents, and that is why I am asking all of you future 5th graders to keep the tradition that we started, and make all of us proud.

Sincerely,
Admira

I really actually have 6 sisters.Twins,4 step, sisters & 1 related sister, their names are Jennifer, Gloria, Soraya,& Kony, but I don't know the twins names because they live in Mexico. So does Jennifer. The main job I do at home is cleaning my room. Your thinking [obviously]. If I don't clean my room I don't get to go to my friends house. Which reminds me of my bf, Sierra Lewis Sweed. She's been my friend for 5 years now. Sierra and I are like super glue and Stride gum stuck together. Another friend or relitive if you will is my cousin Emily. She is an 11 month old & cute little baby that you'll may meet at my parent teacher conference.
I know this is mostly what you want to know. My strengths and weaknesses.Well I'll start with my weakness, which is math. Math is difficult for me because it takes a while for my mind to understand what I have to learn or how the problem works. That dosen't mean that I don't like math, actually I do like the activities. Now moving on to my strengths. I am excellent at writing. I am strong at this subject because in my every time we're assigned something to do I'm right on task. I also have many ideas for what we're going to do or write.Next stop is homework. I turn in my homework most of the time. I'm not like I don't turn in my home work I do turn it in. I understand the homework that is given and it's not to difficult either. Unless I don't pay attention. Don't worry I do pay attention. Most of my classmates don't like tons of homework but I do, a lot.
My hopes for fifth grade are that I'm wanting to go to Cal-Wood 7 much much more. For example, I've seen the math on your white board which might be a challenge for me. I like challenges. I'm not to worried about anything in fifth grade. Fifth grade is going to be a delight for me. See you in August! By the way my naem is one whole not two parts. Bye!!!

Marylou

Dear future fifth graders,

I am going to start off by telling you about Cal-Wood. While we were at Cal-Wood we had a blast! While we were there we did many great things such as, we did an orienteering course on the last day at Cal-Wood, on the first day we were there we played volleyball untill it was time for lunch and then we got settled into our cabins. The food there was great! It was by far the best food I have ever had in my hole entire life. Now, I am going to tell you about homework. If you do not do your homework in fifth grade you will not get very good grades. I not quit sure what is going to happen yet if you miss a homework asingment but all I know is that you are going to get off easier then we did. I am finally going to tell you to push our thinking at all times. If you do not push your thinking at all times you will not be able to accomplish things that others will be able to accomplish.

4.Mr Moore can be really funny but when it comes to teaching be careful.
5.Mr Moore will give you patches for the all three trimesters and he wants you to have at least to have two or three full draft notebooks full of stories and patches so write a lot.
6.Mr. Moore and Ms. Vander Velde are planning a trip into the mountains and you get to stay there longer than us yo go for four days, and three nights.
7.While your there you are going to need to bring a pillow and a sleeping bag to sleep in.
8.Mr. Moore will read to you but some times he will start to cry in the really sad books that he has read before.
9.At the end of the year Mr. Moore and Ms Vander Velde will do a end of the year party like we had.
10.Mr Moore will expect a lot from you so be ready and Mr. Moore will want every piece of homework that he gives out.
So what I'm trying to say is that Mr. Moore wants you to be ready for sixth grade like he wanted us to be and we really learned a lot from him and we really appreciate all of your hard work Mr. Moore. I think that Mr. Moor will be a whole lot like more colorful that how he was before and I think that you will do great with him and he will do great with you. I for got about one thing that is that you will be learning about your body parts and if you cant handle it then you have to go to the office until you learn t5o stop messing around and calm down. Mr . Moore is such a nice teacher to learn with and you will like him as much as I did.

Dear future 5th graders,

I have some advice that you might want to have for next year they are:

1.always have your homework done/no excuses/you will not get a lot of homework

I mostly handed in my homework on time. But, when I did not have it on time Mr. Moore did not do any thing, all he would do was just keep track of the things you did not have on a clip board. I do not know about you but when that happens it makes me feel kind of guilty so I tried to get all my homework done on time.

2.If you do forget your homework have your parents write a note to Mr. Moore or Mrs. V depending on witch teacher you have saying that you forgot then let your parents write their signature

When ever I forgot my homework at school or lost it I had to ask my mom if she could write a note to Mr. Moore so he could except it.

3. When you go to Cal – Wood for 4 days make sure you listen to the weather lady/ man to bring the right clothes

When we went to Cal – Wood I had to watch the weather man to see if it would be hot or cold.

4.try to stay out of trouble/ do not forge your parents signature

I have never gotten in serious trouble before so I did not get in that much trouble.

5.you will have to use the smart board in 5th grade and you will get better laptops then the ones you have now

Getting the smart board was cool because we could write with our phalanges (fingers).

6.you will probably not get afternoon recess next year but maybe at the end of the year

When we found out we could not have afternoon recess we were a little upset but now it turned in to a normal thing for us.

7.at the end of the year you will need to learn about the man & woman's private body parts so get all the giggles out because if you do not you are going to sit in a room by yourself

When we started talking about the private parts of a man & woman we all started laughing but most of us got over it.

8.Get on your teacher's good side

I was on Mr. Moore's good side so I know that it is way better to be on a teachers good side then their bad side so be on a teachers good side.

From,
Crystal

Dear Fourth Graders,

In fifth grade you are going to have a lot of fun especially if you are on good behaver and bring all of your homework on time. I am going to tell you about Cal-wood, homework and expectations from fifth grade.

In Cal-wood you will have a lot of fun. You will be there for four days. There is volleyball net, there is a night hike that they will take you on, there is a waterfall, there is even a time were they will take you to a mica mine. So you can remember all of this you will have to write a at least eight pages of what you did in one day, and do not wary the pages are not that long and you will have plenty to write about because you leave about at seven to go explore and then you come bake about at. When you are there you will get at least two day to take a shower and they will get enough time to wright. It will be a lot of fun.

Now lets talk about homework. You will be getting a lot of homework but it is nothing alike like what they are going to give you in sixth grade. On a regular day you will probably be getting science, math, reading, DLI, patch, and multiplication and division. A patch is only on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. If you do all of that work you will not get in trouble with the teacher.

Fifth grade has a lot of expectations like.......
1.you have to bring in all of your homework in complete
2.you have to know your facts up to 11
3.you have to show respect to everyone
4.you always have to be on task
5.you can only talk when it is your tern
6.you have to listen to the teacher when he or she is talking
7.you always have to be prepared
8.you have to take good care of the stuff that is at your table
9.the teacher has to know were you are at all times
That is mostly all I need to tell you about fifth grade.

Dear future fifth graders,

I really hope that when you become fifth graders next year that you do really good. So to make sure you do, here is some advice for you that you would need to know for next year. To begin, you would have to do all your homework next year. You would need to do all your homework next year because if you don't then it's not that good for you. It's not good for you because then that just means that your not doing your job and not doing all of your responsibilities in school and out of school.

Another piece of advice for you is that there is going to be a trip to Cal-Wood. Cal-Wood is basically a outdoor education. A outdoor education is when you are learning but you learning outside. Anyway at Cal-Wood you have to pay attention and stay on task. You have to do this because you may start to mess around and get of task and when you do that you may get lost and that is not good at all. Also, another thing that you should know about Cal-Wood is that if you get in trouble then you would have to go back to your cabin and stay there until the rest of the class comes back.

Another piece of advice is that you should do good in class and never be off task. If you are off task then it is a pretty good chance that you are going to get caught so just stay on task and do your job. If someone tries to talk to you then just ignore them and if you do that then that will keep you out of trouble.

Another thing that you should know is that next year there is going to be a Smart board in the classroom and you should get use to it. For example on the Smart board you have to write on it and do problems on it. Well, that is all I have to tell you so you are ready for next year.

Your friend,
Julyssa :)

Dear Fifth Grade Teachers,

May 21,2009

Dear Fifth Grade Teachers,

My name is Andre. I live with my mom, dad, my dog,and my two brothers. My job's at home are cleaning my room, and washing the mirrose in the bathroom. My favorite colors are blue and green. My favorite food is Nachos with Jalapenos and I just play video games when I'm bored. My Mom does most of the work in the house. My dad does some of the work in the house. My brothers just play outside.

In 4th grade I'm good at LA because I answer losts of questions. Some homework I get in 4th grade is mostly math, L.A., and read 20 minutes. I'm having trouble with math because I don't listen good.

Next year I want to get better at math and I'm so exited to go to cal-wood because I haven't gone to a trip in a while. I hope that I do good next year.

Your friend,

Andre

Dear Future fifth graders,
I just want to let you know what you will be doing in the fifth grade. Well you will have some expectations that you will need to fallow. One is that what ever when ever you write a patch to the teacher. And in fifth grade the teacher will have you do something called a current event and what you need to have for it is an article and you have to have it one every Monday and if you type it on a computer then it only needs to be one page but if it is hand written then it needs to be two pages long. And the patch is on every Monday,Wednesday, and Friday. You will also have DLI and spelling you will have DLI and spelling every day except for Friday nights. And the fun things about fifth grade is that you will be going on a few field trips and one of them is when you are going to be going down town. And then you will be going to Cal-wood that is up in the mountains and you will be spending the night their for four days and three nights. And another thing that you got to look forward to is continuation and field day. When continuation comes around you will do a lot of cool things for your continuation.

(No offense!) Well at the beginning of the year it is just a little challenge but you'll get used to it and when it gets closer and closer to the end of the year it gets harder and harder but you will catch on.
