Reflection

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I read a magazine called Edutopia. It is a magazine about "what works in public education." The founder of the magazine is George Lucas. (The guy who created Star Wars!) The magazine also has a blog!

What does the word reflection mean to you? I just read this blog post where reflection was defined as "The mind's strongest glue."

What does that make you think about?

In the post I just read on their blog, the author, Suzie Boss, talks about how students need time to reflect about what they learn. In one instance, they describe a classroom where there is a "Video Confessional" room so students can go in and video tape their reflections about what they are learning. Talk about a way to push your thinking! Please take some time to read the post and comment! Thanks!

Dear Mr. Moore,

When I read your post and you asked what"reflection" means to me, I immediatly knew the answer. To me reflection means taking a piece of writing and being able to react to it and be able to make connections with the author and be able to share the same thoughts about something.
What really got my attention on the blog you sent me to, was that they had this little pop-up window that said "A great educator is like a master mucision" and I agree with that, because without and educator, a kid cant learn anything, and they wouyldn't learn how to accept themselves, and their confidence would totally drain out.

Dear Mr. Moore,
I went to the blog on the 2nd paragraph and I read some of there post and I heard that George Mayo started teaching middle school five years ago. You said in the blog post what reflection means to us well to me its like when you get a piece of text and make connections like Cristal did with one story from the wiki.

Dear Mr. Moore,

When I followed the link to the blog, I read that a gut named George Mayo, felt that blogs help students write, and that a blog will emphasize a students reflection.
This guy George, told the students who are not confident and who are not good readers and writers to create a new blog post every week, and when they looked back at the writing from before the blog to the writing they did every week, they were surprised and shocked to see how much they really grew, and the teacher saw that their confidence was improving.
Wow! Blogs can really be like a reflection, and show a kid how their writing has changed and gotten better.
