Blogs Not To Miss

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dan Maas has a list on his blog called "Blogs Not To Miss." Please take a moment to check out what other LPS students are doing with blogs. If you find something interesting, please come back to this post and leave a comment about what you found. Thanks!

Dear Mr.Moore,
what I think would be a good idea on the Dragon Pagoda is video taping students sharing their work. I saw this on a blog thats called Mrs. Riggsby's blog. She video taped her student reading there favorite stories. Write me back!

Dear Mr. Moore,

I was checking out a blog called Smith English, and she had this long survey about 15 questions, and the questions had to do with assignments and our writing, and I thought it would be cool if you could make a weekly survey with questions about homework, writing and the laptops.
Also, on a blog called Gettel's Group, they have this little box titled question of the day, and they had questions about the solar system, and they would let you type your answer, and then they would tell you to press check me. I think that it would be cool if you could put that up as well.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Mr. Maas noticed this post. He sent me an email about how impressed he was. In the subject line of the email, he wrote, "Are you kidding?!?!" He couldn't believe that you were given the task of evaluating other blogs in order to make ours better. Keep up the great work!

Dear Mr.Moore and Ms.V,

While I was on the Bowers blog I saw a part where it says:What is your favorite Disney movie?

Lion king
Finding Nemo
Mulan
!01 dalmatians
Cinderella
Peter Pan and more.

The reason I am telling you this is because I think you should put something similar to this because I think it would be fun to have a thing like that weekly.

Dear Mr.Moore and Ms.V,

I was looking through some blogs from different classes.I looked at Mrs.Smiths blog it was really interesting because it had a lot of surveys about the topic their class were studying about. They also had a couple of posts on how they can improve on stuff they need to work and the kids said stuff on what they are concerned on and what they think of the subjects they were learning. This are a couple things that we can use on our blog.
Sincerely,
Emiliano

Dear Ms.V and Mr.Moore,
What I think that we should do to make our blog better is by you the teachers should put a picture of yourselves and put a little paragraph about you and what you like to do.I got this idea from the Team Culver blog because there teacher did that and attracted me right away because I wanted to see what the teacher is like there at Wilder Elementary. Please comment me back on what you think about this idea

Dear Mr.Moore and Ms.V,

I was checking out a blog called Mr. Watanabe's 4th grade blog and the thing I like about theres is that when you scroll down and on the side it has a picture of there class and I like that because we can see there faces and know what they look like. I really think that we should maybe make a picture from each class or even a whole fifth grade picture!

I really think that is a good idea. I think looking at other blogs can help us make our blog even better than it is. We can do all sorts of things that can make it better.

I also looked at another blog which was called Mrs. Claus' blog and I noticed that is was a fifth grade class just like us. The thing that I liked about there blog is that at the bottom of the page it has a thing called Multiplication Station and I think it helps you with you multiplication facts and it is a game that you could play and I really think that our classes would like to play that! I really think that it is a great idea to look on other blogs because we can see what they are doing at there school! I really think this is fun too!

Sincerely,
Angelica U.

Dear Mr.Moore and Miss.V,

I saw Mrs.Claus 5th grade class's blog and I saw at the bottom was a game and I think that would be fun to have. I think we can use this because one time if you guys want us to play a certain game on a mathematics web site, then all you have to do is just find the game and then post it on the blog. That is what I think that you can do to make the blog better.

Dear Ms.V and Mr.Moore,
On one blog I saw that they had that nights homework. I think it would be pretty cool if we put our homework assignments so kids who get on the internet at home could check their homework. Also, one blog had morning annoucements and I think it would be cool to have a recap of that day's event and what to look forward to for the next day.
Sincerely,
Cheyanne

Dear Mr.Moore and Ms.V,
As I was reading in one of the blog I found that they did articles on their blog and blogged about them.Maybe fifth and fourth grade should get news articles from news web sites and blog about it.What I mean is that we could also write about what we read in one of the articles. With the news articles we can also write our own opinion yet also say what was the thing that was the most horrible and also say what could have happen. And with these article we can learn about worldly news and really say our own opinion.

Dear Mr.Moore and Miss.VanderVelde,

When I was going through the blog Euclid Fly on the wall I noticed that on their blog they have information about many important people or something else. I saw that they have information about an artist named Brian Eno.It looks like they put a picture of one of his pieces of art. Then I saw that six graders respond to this blog. This blog belongs to the sixth graders in Euclid Middle School. I would our blog Dragon Pagoda to have a place where fifth graders can Google. I think that if we have it on our blog it will be right there when we sign in and we would not have to use the Google box on the top of our laptops. I think that if we start putting more information about people on the blog fifth graders can be smarter and know important information about important people in history.

Dear Mr.Moore and Ms.VanderVelde,
I was looking at "Mr.Watanabe's 4th Grade Blog" and they have a picture of their whole class together. I was thinking maybe we could take one of both of the fifth grade classes because we share one blog.
I was also looking at Mrs.Rigsby's blog and they video taped a few kids reading their stories. I think we should do that with everyone. They also had a little box that you could type in a word and it would give you spell-check, thesaurus, and dictionary results. We could do that because in IGR we usually have to go to a different website to get the final meaning, so if you guys put it on our blog we could just type in the word.
I was on Mrs.Claus' 5th grade blog and instead of having to go all the way to the website, the games just showed up and all you had to do was click to play. We should do that with the games we play the most because if we did that with all the games the blog would go on forever!

I like all the videos on all of the blogs and stuff but what I like most of all is that the pictures and stuff and mabye we can put diffrent thing because all of those blogs and wiki's have the same things as we do were like all copying each other witch is very strang but we should do the plege of alligence on our videios.

Dear Miss.V,and Mr.Moore,
This morning that I looked at some blogs I found some ideas and some good ones,First I thought we could do morning and afternoon announcements like turn on the smart board and on there we could do lunch choices and put on if were going to have a test or something. The other thing I thought was cool was that we could video tape kids saying the pledge of allegence on the computer and they could do some announcements.

Dear Mr.Moore and Miss V,
One thing that we should put in our blog spot is what happen today in the news because Mr.Moore and you can post a comment and we can comment back that is one of the things I'm still looking to find more stuffed.Another thing would be put some question so when we have free times to read them and answer. On the other hand there should also be like when we do writing and reading our stories you should video tap us and put the videos in our blog so other people can see the person that wrote the text.In addition there should also be a picture of the two 5th grade class because when other people come there should be able to know the people that they are talking to and seeing there work.I realize that there should also be a clock so you and Mr.Moore don't have to tell us when to stop.I think that with the clock we are going to know when to clean up to go to spelling city,Fact monster,Math games, when to go to the wiki, and other stuff. On the other hand we can also have kids video taps telling us how this computers helps us in our classroom. In addition we can also put like kids getting there computers and showing other people there stuff and reading them.On the other hand like when people come and visited us you and Mr.Moore should video taps us so when other people see our blog spot they should know that other like important people came and see us with our laptops. That was prediction.

Dear Mr. M and Ms. V,
When I was searching Ms. Clause blog, I saw that they had a multiplication game posted that was on the screen and you didn't have to go in to a different website or anything. I though that we could do that with our 5th grade blog.I also thought that we could take a picture of Mr. M class and Ms. V's class. Then we could put them on the side of the blog and right by each other. We could also put the East Elementary 5th grade class.

Dear Ms.V and Mr.Moore,

When I was looking in to the blog "Things not to miss."Then I found Mr.Watanabe's 4th Grade Blog site and saw some th9ing for homework and it was called homework help.so I was wondering if we could put homework help for our fifth grade blog Dragon Pagoda. But then I was wondering if we could make one for our writing so we can see what other people wrote for unit 5.So having to go all the way to our wiki.
So then we can read each others work and we can comment back to each other on our blog. Then see what people think about our writing and see what we can add to our writing. The other thing that that could help is that people from around the world or here can read the work and see what East Elementary is doing in fifth grade!

Sincerely,
Richard

Dear Mr. Moore,
When I went to the Gettel's Group blog, I saw that on the side, there was something that said, 'question of the day.' On that, there was a math problem. I think that is a really good idea and that we should use it, because even short, small problems can help our brains refresh. I also think it doesn't have to be a math problem- maybe a writing project. Perhaps we have to write about our favorite subject.

Dear Mr. Moore,
The blog named Team Culver has a good picture of there class and that just gave me an idea that we should do that.

Dear Mr.Moore,
I went to Mrs.Claus'5th grade blog and I saw something interesting on her blog. What I thought was interesting on her 5th grade blog was that she had a game on there that you could automatically play. I thought it was interesting because you didn't have to find where to go. You just had to play it right there on the blog.

Dear Mr. Moore,

On one of the blogs that I was looking at, a fifth grade class made movies about a lot of different things. I think that we should make our own movie about the revolutionary war for a whole class project.

Dear Mr. Moore,
I was looking at Bowers blog and I think it was really interesting because the posts were about interesting things that I did not know about before. One of the posts I really liked reading was the one that said a good friend. I liked it because it gave me an idea of how friends will be and act when they are big. Another thing is that it gives me ideas of what a good friend is and does.

Dear Mr. Moore,

When I was looking at the Gettel's group blog I saw this thing on the side of their page and it was a question. I think that it would be really cool if we had a question of the day because if we did them in the morning it would help us get our brains started for the day.

Dear Mr.Moore,
I saw The Fischbowl and I realized we were on it! It is very exciting because he gets so many people looking at his blog. That's probably why we have a visitor from every major continent. I hope our blog becomes that famous.

Dear Mr. Moore
When I was looking for blogs I saw that one of the blogs had a game on it, and I think that this is a good idea, because if somebody comes and plays on it and when the are done playing it the person will realize the posts that you put up and will start reading more an more about them and then he will tell others the name of the blog and then we will have more people coming to our blog witch I thought was pretty cool.

Mr. Moore and Ms. V-

How nice that you have your students looking at our blogs! Looking at some of the things which have caught their eyes, thought I'd mention to make sure all parent permissions are in place before you post ANY kind of student picture (videotaped or regular). We have been doing taped announcements at Runyon but we always have to be sure that the parent has agreed to the media release. Also, while not an expert on copyright, I would think that videotaping a student reading a non-public domain story and then posting that on the internet would be a copyright violation. You are changing the format of the story and then posting it online for anyone to access as opposed to fair-use direct instruction. This topic alone could open an entire discussion of copyright with your students. It has even come up in the news lately with Amazon's new Kindle e-book reader. This features a text-to-speech format and that caused the publishers and authors to claim copyright violation because of the change in format.

Keep up the blogging kids!

I had just paid a visit to Dan's blog and I gotta say that he has got a lot of interesting stuff. One of the thing that I thought was really cool was his cluster map and it has way more comments than us.
