At Cal-Wood I had a fun adventure. Every morning my cabin would go hiking and see elk and deer. We went on one scavenger hunt to find some staples to put in a notebook. ON the first day we could eat on the volleyball court. One day we went on a night hike through the woods. It was so cool to walk in the night because we could use our night vision to see in the night. One day we went for a four mile hike through the woods to mica mine.On the way back we made sandwiches to eat. We got to learn the diffrense between a female tree and a male tree. The way we got to Cal- Wood was by a long bus. At the end we took two buses.

Dear Mr. Moore,
At first, I was very scared and sad about going to Cal-Wood because I thought I would be very homesick and I thought kids would leave me out. But when I arrived there, I was very glad that I came. The parts of Cal-Wood I hated was when I had to hike a long time and when I got off the bus and got so sick that some of the adults had to help me walk to the lodge. But most of the stuff was fun. I especially liked looking for insects at the pond. Cheyanne was my partner. Even though most of the insects were disgusting, it was very exciting at the same time. We (Cheyanne and me) found 2 leaches, 2 baby dragonflies, and etc. It was very cool to see the leech suck the bottom of a glass box. I think it thought that the box was someone's skin and if it sucked the bottom, the person would free it. But, I was very afraid that the leech might suck me when I let it go. I was so afraid I threw the bottom part of the box with the leech into the pond. Shivers ran down my body as I searched for the bottom of the box with my hand. Then, Anna took her bucket and scooped up the bottom part of the glass box. I was so relieved. I pretty much liked all of the stuff I did with our instructer Angie. She was nice and very hard working. I really liked playing camouflage. I fell playing the game. But, the one fall got slivers all over my feet, leg, and arm. Now, I miss Angie very much. Also, I loved bob time and down time. I mostly rested or wrote in my diary or write on the Cal-Wood diary. I was almost sweating because I was afraid that I might not finish the assignments you and Ms. V told us to do. One of the funny moments??? I think Ms. V's dance was funny. Cal-Wood was definitely a great experience for me.
Sincerely,
Narah
Dear Mr. Moore,
Cal-Wood was awesome! I had a great time at Cal-Wood. I learned a ton of things at Cal-Wood like I learned that on some land maps that have rings around them that tells hoe high the elevation of the mountain is. Another thing is that some water beetles hide under the thick mud. On Tuesday morning a couple of boys including me went on a morning hike to see elk. We were very surprised of what we found. When we were walking along a trail we just happen to look up the mountain and we saw a huge heard of elk. There were probably 40 to 50 elk in the heard. Inside the heard we saw a ton of dear. My dad told me that dear hide inside the groups of elk because they think of elk as protection from predators.
P.S I will write more latter
Nathan
Dear Mr. Moore,
Cal-Wood was fun and let me tell you about Cal-wood now. The group saw tree cancer; I thought trees couldn't get sick or get cancer. I found out that the Cruthers family made the hay bunk they put there hay in there, and we saw there house.Kids were putting on there there clothes I felt weird when I put on there clothes thats how I felt. We saw tons and tons of scat and when we saw scat we sang these song. It starts with an s and ends with a t. It comes out of you and it comes out of me, but I now what your thinking but don't call it that lets be scientific and call it scat. We also saw a back bone but I don't now if it was from a elk or a deer ethor one don't now witch was it its a mystory. when we were walking we played camaflage. This is how you play some one coumts to 30 and the rest of the people go hide. then, they try to say what they are wearing so if they call something that your wearing you go withthe person that is tring to catch people.

Dear Mr. Moore,
Wow! Our first day at Cal-Wood was awesome! First, we had our oreintation, where we learned rules and expectations. Then, we went up to the volley ball field where we ate and then got to explore around. While I was looking around, I saw a Native American teepee, standing alone in the woods! It was so cool! After that, we were seperated into learning groups. In my group there was Kaylee, Karen, Julyssa, Iratny, Sophia, Andrew, Gustavo, Ruben T., Abraham, and me. To be continued...

Mr. Moore Cal-wood was super cool! It was super cool because in the morning my cabin and an other cabin woke up first of all the other cabins and went to see a big herd of elk and a big herd deer. An other one is to learn about tree cancer.
Dear Mr. Moore,
I had a wonderful time at calwood and was a great experoience and a was a great oportunitie for me to have. At first my parents didnt feel so convinced that me going to calwood was such a great idea. My parents said it was ok for me to go and I hade that chance to go to calwood. One thing that we did at Calwood a lot was hike and Mrs. kay told me that one of the hike that we took to the mica mine took 8 hours! wow was I tired after that. My favorite part at Calwood was the campfire, we sang songs and plated little skits for 5th grade. something else I really liked was the night hike and was so cool because we got to see shooting stars I saw like about 12 shooting stars in the sky. One of the expearament that we did was eat one of the hard life savers that are mint flavored and chew it with really bad maners with youre mouth open and the life saver would spark and glow. as you can see I had a lot of fun at calwood and there are plenty af other stuff I am going to tell you about. Now you might be wondering "what did you learn" we learned wait I will learn later to be continued......
Dear Mr. Moore,
It was really nice of you to let Rafael convince my dad to let me go on this trip. I was astonished when he said, "Miha, you are going to Cal-Wood." But he also said,"You're going to Cal-Wood but, I'm going to pick you up at night." Was it true that you couldn't go to sleep at night Mr. Moore? I loved the beauty of the mountains and ponds. They inspired me to draw pictures. I drew a picture of a pond. It was wonderful experience for me.
dear Mr. Moore we did cool activities we got an extra resses. Me and the other girls played against each other in tether ball. All day we played tether ball and we made an esssay. And made kind of o a test for science and came with a math page too ,how awesome is that .We had so much fun I think that it was fun because she gaved us coloring pages.the people who stayed where jessica , isabel, denisse , brayan and including me.i don't now how to say it . Dear Mr.Moore,
Cal-Wood was one of the best experiences of my life. First of all I really loved the food. It's so good. The scavenger hunt was one of my favorites. B.O.B. time and down time was really fun too. When we had dinner it was absolutely good. On the night hike I saw 3 shooting stars. To be continued.

Dear Mr. Moore
The Cal-Wood trip was beyond awesome for me. On the trip we learned a lot of things like when I saw when it is dark and you put lifesavers in your mouth and chew it with your mouth open it actually glows and when you chew it it glows and it also looks like fireworks at the exact same time. I thought that the mica mine was so cool! I wish that I could bring some home with me on the back home but I can't. I am so glad that I went on the trip. I will never forget this whole trip and I mean ever. I will finish later on.
Julyssa
Dear Mr.Moore,
I didn't go to Cal-Wood but we still had fun at school. The first day we were all girls because Brayon didn't go to school. And it was cooler when we were only six kids in the class room.We played around the world it was fun but it wasn't that much fun because there was only 6 people to play with.On those days we did have recess that was fun because for the first time I played tether ball.I lost on every game we played but at least I tired right? Mrs. Foster told us that someone was going to buy us pizza but she didn't say who. It was Isabel's mom it was a big surprise.Even thou I didn't go to Cal-Wood I had fun here at school!
Denisse
Dear Mr.Moore,
I agree with you that cal-wood was fun don't you? I think that cal-wood was fun because we got to do different kinds of stuff like go hiking to the mountains and seeing elks and deers up there. And that we played camuflauge and when we had to hide in the grass and sometimes in the bushes.I really enjoyed it over there.Good that we got to sleep in cabins I thought that we going to sleep in a hotel not in cabins.I can't believe that the 3 days went fast at least we got to do fun things. The best part where I went is the mica mide and we got to see all the mica on the floor and we went through the mica mide hole to get out. The peple that did not go were especially were doing a-lot of work in the classrooms. When we were tired and when we could not find the water fountain. The weak part is that when we had to climb up hill to the mountains.

Dear 5th graders:
I am so glad I got the opportunity to join you all on your trip to Cal-Wood! It was great to get to know all of you and to spend time exploring the mountains with you. What an awesome group of kids you are!! I am sure it was an experience you will never forget. I still remember when I took a trip to a place like Cal-Wood when I was your age!!! I can't wait to see all of the pictures and hear more of your stories from the trip.
See you soon!
Miss Laura

Three,we had a orientation then we had lunch.
Four,we had a hike.
Five,we had body on beds time.
Six,we had down time.

Dear Mr. Moore,
"Mija, you're going to Cal-Wood.""But I'm going to pick you up at night."Thank you Mr. Moore and Rafael.I really appreciate that you went through all that trouble to let me go to Cal-Wood. I can't belive Rafael convinced my dad to let me go. Rafael even convinced him to let me sleep there for one night.
Cal-Wood has lots of beautiful sceneries. Those beautiful sceneries gave me ideas to draw pictures. I can show them to you if you want. I drew a picture of a pond by pine trees.
When i was at the pond I caught a bug. It was called a boatmen. I think that's a weird name for a bug. I hate bugs except butterflies and lady bugs.
During this trip I got to see the soft side of Mis.V. Which I like the best. She did a really funny dance. She looks very nice in pig-tails.
We also went to the Mica Mine. I went in a cave with my flash light. Everything looked like glitter. Then I crawled in a tunnel. I could barely get out of it.
We also saw a tiny Waterfall. I was the first one to sit by it. Then every one wanted to sit by it too. I also drew a picture of that too.
This experience for me was very nice.Thank you!
Your friend,
Crystal
Dear Mr. Moore
Cal-Wood has been a great experience for me. My favorite part of this trip is at night in my cabin. Why this is my favorite of the trip is because Ashley was passing her teddy bear around to us and we drove our chaperon nuts. Only taking one shower the whole time we were there was really weird and 5 minutes you got to to be kidding me. I have never sen a camp fire in real life so that was great to. Singing a song about scat was just weird. I really enjoyed being a hopper except the fact I had to keep getting up while I was eating. This time we got to take 2 buses home. It was great to finally see my family again. Now you can clearly see why Cal-Wood has been a great experience.
Torsha
Dear Mr. Moore,
I really enjoyed going to the mountains for the first time in my life. But on the way to the mountains we crashed into a sign and broke one of our mirrors. But we fixed it because a guy stopped and let us use some tools. On the first day at Cal-Wood it was exciting because we found out who was in our cabin. We also went hiking to the mountains before lunch. We had lunch at the valley ball court. Then we took a hike again up the mountains. We went to a pond and found little animals that were invertebrates. Then we learned a game called camaflosh. The game went like this someone would be the owl and you would hide and on round three you would run to tag the person. We left to our cabins and it was bob time. Then in fifteen minutes it was down time and time to head to the lodge. Then they would line us up and call us by the quietest cabin line. After dinner we left for anight hike, the night hike was cool because we did an expeirment on mints. The mints would show light when you would bite on them.It was time for bed but before you could go to bed you had to write two pages about your day. The next day we woke up and got ready for our morning hike and we had to dress and brush our teeth. For breakfast we had panckes and bacon and also milk. Then Mr. Moore told us we were going to hike eight miles straight. On our way to thehike we stopped to have lunch. We had sandwitches with some veggies. We left and went to the Mica Mine. The Mica Mine was the coolest part about Cal-Wood. We had our dinner and there were hopper's at the table. A hopper is someone who sits at your table and if you need something they go get it for you. Then we had a camp fire outside. We also had to perform a little show in front of the whole fifth grade Cal-Wood. The next day it was a sad day. It was sad because it was our last day at Cal-Wood. We took our last hike together, ate lunch and left the mountains. We waved good bye and it took us a hour and thirdy minutes to arrive at the school. I sure did have a great adventure!
Chantel
Dear Mr. Moore,
I was really scared to go to Cal-Wood at first, because of the fact that I was going to be away from home for three days and two nights. But all the same, I'm glad I went. My dad took me to the gym at 7:30, and when it was time for me to get on the bus, he started crying, which made me cry. My dad couldn't see me off because he was crying so much. Our buses were so huge. The bus had like three trunks on the side of it for us to put our luggage in them. The trip took two hours almost, and on the way we saw Prairie dogs in a field, we passed a car crash, where it looked like the driver just purpously slammed into the wall on the other side of the street. Finally, we got to Cal-Wood. I was happy and grumpy at the same time. I was happy because we finally made it to Cal-Wood, grumpy because we had to carry all of our stuff up hill 1|4 of mile. I kept dropping my stuff because it was so heavy. Finally, everybody made it up the hill, and the workers told us to sit on the benches circling them. A worker named Trish, assigned us cabins, and we were up and off to our cabins, where we put our stuff in drawers, and got our beds set. Then, we got ready to go down to the bear room, where they taught us rules and expectations. After that, Trish and Mari,[another worker,] led us to a volley-ball court, where we ate our lunches, and went to look around and explore. After at least an hour and a half, Trish and Mari called the kids to crowd around them so they could sort us into learning groups. I was in a group with Kaylee, Karen, Julyssa, Iratny, Abraham, Sophia, Gustavo, Ruben T.,Andrew, Manuel, Mr. Moore, and Laura. Mari was our leader. Soon, we set out hiking, and we had a scavenger hunt, where we had to find hole punchers and hole punch our journals. My group only found 4. Then, we went to our cabins, for BOB time. BOB, means body on bunk, or butt on bed. After 15 minutes of BOB time, we had down time, where we are aloud to go to the lodge, be in our cabins, or the volley ball field. Finally it was time for dinner. After dinner, we went up to our cabins to write two full pages for the teachers. I hated that part. Finally, we were in bed, lights out, ready for bed, so we could have another great day tomorrow. My trip to Cal-Wo0od was really fun.I cant tell yo every thing about every single day, because my battery is running low, but I will tell you that that night we went on a night hike, and the next day to a mica-mine, and the last day, we went to a pond to find creatures we never saw before, and study them. I was really tired by the time I got home, that right when I got home, I dropped my stuff on the floor, fell on the bed and fell asleep. Can we go on tips like this more often?
Your student with a really sore hand,
Admmira
Dear Mr. Moore
I really liked being at Cal-Wood because it was educational but also fun. What I thought was most interesting about Cal-Wood was the night hike and the waterfall. The worst part was leaving my family. When I left my mom she would not stop hugging me. I am really glad that Mrs. V and Mr. Moore had this trip planed for the 5th grade. The bad thing is that some of the students did not come to Cal-wood. One of my friends is Anna and she stayed back because she was the new girl and she got hear like 5 days before we were about to leave to Cal-Wood. I thing Cal-Wood was a good experience for everyone who went.

Dear Mr. Moore
when we got on the buses Marilyn my sister started to cry.on the way down to bolder a cop came racing down the street we founded out it was a car that hit the median. Then the bus driver got lost he went to back up and broke his mirror it took about 10 minutes to fix then we got a move on.We finally got to cal-wood.thanks for cal-wood.
Sincerely
Michele
Hello 5th Graders! Reading all your comments about your trip to Cal-Wood made me laugh and cry (probably because I was laughing too hard). Thank you for writing about your adventures - I'm excited to read about your next adventures in the classroom! Thanks to all the adults who made this happen! Renee Howell
Great job kids! It sounds like you had a fun time. I bet that you have a ton of new "seed ideas" to write about in the future. I really like how you all found different topics to write about, such as the busses, the food, shooting stars...
Good job at using supporting details in your reflections.
